Hellebore

They are one of the most beautiful of flowers as well as one of the earliest in the year to flower.

Although unless you get down on your knees you will not see their true face, colour and freckles.

Some of the more modern species have been developed so that the flower heads face upwards, but I prefer the traditional varieties.

They also then allow for one of my favourite flower arrangement,  simple but effective;

Fill a bowl or shallow vase with water.

Snip the flowers off with a very short stem.

Gently lay the flowers into the water.

The flowers will last for some weeks, if in bright sunshine the flowers will fade slowly but still looking beautiful.
