Alnwick Castle Gardens

We had a few days away last week and we headed off to the North East, Northumberland.  It is only a few hours drive and as it doesn’t involve going anywhere south, the roads are clear and the journey relaxing.

One day we went to the beach, the second, Alnwick Castle, which was closed for winter, but the gardens were open. Due to the fact that it was winter, mid-week and freezing, we almost had the place to ourselves.

I have not been before but have read about the huge amounts of money spent on the gardens.  And it showed.  The water features were amazing. The Christmas lights beautiful, the tree house fun and, with surprise, flowers still looking good.

The water gardens, although it was frosty were still on full pelt,

The main water feature is a miniature version of Chatsworth, the only let down was the smell of chlorine, so no creature lurking in the water.

The large trees all around the garden had bundle of lights in them which looked like mistletoe.

There is then the tree house!! Not like the one I had in the tree in the field as I was growing up!!

And last but not least…. flowers!!

I loved it!
